The $500 prepaid debit card was sent to Hawaiians who have reported unemployment since March 1 and received benefits in September. It can be used for the purchase of food and non-alcoholic beverages in establishments that accept the Master Card. “This card comes at a critical time and will help save our local businesses,” said Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce. “It will help save our local jobs and help our economy in an urgent time.” Gov. David Ige said Monday during a Honolulu Star Advertiser Spotlight Hawaii program that nearly 90 percent of restaurant cards sent have been activated. “I`ve heard from restaurateurs that it`s made a big difference in the number of people coming in,” he said. However, according to the State, all costs of printing, processing and operating cards are subscribed by the State with the funds of the Bundes careS Act. Cards are sent in large quantities directly to the organization and, like the initial HRC, preloaded prepaid debit cards, which can be used in Hawaiian restaurants, restaurants, bakeries and food wrestlers, accept Mastercard debit. Debit cards are being distributed as part of the Hawaii Restaurant Card program, to help residents and businesses experiencing the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic. I`ve never received the first card, so I hope the second one will be fine. Among the residents entitled to the restaurant card are those who applied for and received unemployment insurance benefits in September. In addition to the 116,000 qualified beneficiaries, Ige also plans to send an additional 30,000 cards to Recipients of the Pandemic Unmployment Assistance Program who received benefits in September.
The program runs from Friday to 23:59.m. Qualified recipients can use the card at local establishments that accept debit mastercards to purchase food and non-alcoholic beverages. Ige estimated that the program will inject more than $1.2 million a day into the local economy over a 60-day period. HRC-Business Holiday Cards can be purchased until December 10 and are available in dominations from $5 to $1000 per card. Once companies order the cards for their employees through the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, it takes them three weeks to get them.. . .
